Next Meeting: November 18

At the PTO meeting on November 18th, we will ask members to vote for two of the nominees to join the PTO Officers for the 2009-2010 school year.  At this time, four parents have accepted nominations: Jose Oliveira, Liz Daneu, Sara Hayden, and Val O'Brien.  The following information was provided by the nominees as a means of introducing themselves to parents who may be considering voting at Wednesday's meeting.

  • My name is Sara Hayden.  My daughter Ashley is in 1st grade and next year my other daughter Amber will start Kindergarten at the Clapp-Goodyear, both of whom are second generation Goodyear students. I came to Woburn 2 years ago after marrying a native Woburnite, and never imagined that I would become so involved with the PTO during the last year.  I think it is seeing the joy on the faces of the children at the PTO sponsored events and the camaraderie with the other parents that pulled me in.  I enjoy volunteering to help with the bake sales, fundraisers, and anything that needs to get done.  Thankfully my schedule allows me to be at the school often as I work weekends for the North Shore Flag Football League. I would be honored if you elect me to be a part of the PTO Board.
  • My name is Liz Daneu and I am honored to have been nominated for the 2009-2010 PTO Board.  As the mother of a kindergartner and an educator with experience at all levels K-12, I am interested in serving the school community for the purpose of continuing to create a nurturing and cohesive environment for our kids, while ensuring that we can continue to provide a wide array of enrichment activities, field trips and multi-cultural opportunities for growth.  I also believe the Clapp-Goodyear needs a strong voice in the Woburn Public Schools community at-large so that we can secure the funding and resources to keep our curriculum and offerings on or above par with what the other elementary schools in the system are receiving.  I appreciate your consideration for a position on the Board.
  • My name is Valerie O'Brien.  I am the mother of three girls, one in 2nd grade and two in Kindergaren and one boy who's still at home with me. Although I live in East Woburn now, I graduated from the Clapp and grew up right up the street.  My husband grew up in East Woburn and graduated from the Goodyear.  It is quite fitting that our children attend the Clapp-Goodyear as we are both proud graduates of our elementary schools!  In my time away from my children, I have been a pediatric nurse for twelve years.  I was co-chair of my children's preschool parent group for three years.  During that time, I gained knowledge in fundraising as well as organizing enrichment programs for both children and parents.  I found the parent group to be a great way to get involved in my children's school and meet other parents.  I am happy to accept the nomination for the Clapp-Goodyear PTO and hope to be able to do the same here.  Of the schools in Woburn, this school is unique in so many ways. Although some of us may only be together for two years, it will still be two important years in the lives of our children.  Two years of their elementary years and years that they will remember forever.  I hope that we together can help to make those years memorable in many positive ways, which is why I accepted this nomination.  Thank you for considering me for the PTO.
